Velayati affirms Iran will continue supporting Syria

Damascus, SANA – Advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Ali Akbar Velayati, arrived in Syria on Friday.

In a statement upon his arrival at the Jdaidet Yabous border crossing on the Syrian-Lebanese borders, Velayati said that it’s not easy for a country to withstand five years of war waged on it like Syria did, affirming that Iran will continue supporting Syria’s leadership, army, and people.

He said that political developments require Syrian and Iranian officials to meet constantly for consultations, coordination, and exchanging viewpoints to deal with those developments, asserting that the Syrian-Iranian relationship will remain strategic and distinguished.

For his part, Syrian Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad said that Syria and Iran, along with their allies in Russia and other states, are on the verge of a major victory, asserting that Syria has always stressed that the crisis must be resolved via a political solution, but terrorists, the Riyadh delegation, and the governments of Ankara, Doha, and Riyadh aren’t moving in that direction.

Mikdad asserted the breaches carried out by armed groups are executed upon instructions from these groups’ masters, but despite that Syria remains committed to its international obligations and will respect the truce, whether in Aleppo or anywhere else.
