Mikdad: Syria condemns attempts of Israeli occupation and US to end UNRWA’s mandate

Damascus, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister in the caretaker government, Fayssal Mikdad stressed Syria’s condemnation of attempts of Israeli occupation entity and the United States aimed at ending mandate of UNRWA, including by falsely accusing it of being a terrorist organization and thus stopping the important services it provides to the Palestinian people.

This came during Mikdad’s meeting with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini and the accompanying delegation on Saturday in Damascus.

Mikdad reiterated Syria’s principled stance towards the Palestinian cause and its permanent commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, including the return of Palestinian refugees.

He denounced the intentions of the Zionist occupation entity and its supporters, led by the US , to liquidate the Palestinian cause and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

Mikdad pointed out that the Syrian government provides all facilities to UNRWA to carry out its assigned tasks to ensure the continuation of a decent life for Palestinian refugees in Syria.

Lazzarini, for his part, expressed appreciation for the Syrian government’s efforts to facilitate the UNRWA’s work in Syria.

He affirmed the need for mobilizing the necessary support to confront the various challenges facing the agency, including providing the necessary funding to fulfill its mandate.
