Tehran, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad discussed Tuesday with the Speaker of Iran’s Shura Council Ali Larijani in Tehran developments in Syria and the region as well as the achievements of the Syrian Arab Army, with the support of its allies, in the war against terrorism.
Mikdad said, during the meeting, that reducing the Russian forces in Syria came within the framework of coordination between Syria and Russia after major results in the joint fight against terrorism have been fulfilled.
He affirmed that the Russian role in combating terrorist organizations will continue as the few coming days will see more joint work against these organizations in the Syrian al-Badiya (desert), reminding of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s affirmation of the continued Russian role until terrorist organizations are eliminated.
The Deputy Foreign Minister hailed Iran’s support for Syria in various areas in a way that helps in enhancing its steadfastness and stance in combating terrorism and alleviating the impact of the Western siege imposed on the Syrian people.
Mikdad expressed high appreciation of Tehran’s keenness on maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity in the face of the Zionist and Saudi conspiring against it.
In turn, Larijani affirmed that Iran will continue supporting Syria and its people in facing terrorism, hailing the achievements which the Syrian Arab Army and its allies are making on the ground.
Larijani expressed confidence that Syria and its people will achieve victory over terrorism, which will backfire on its supporters and sponsors.
Both sides reaffirmed that coordination and consultations will continue in various issues of mutual concern.
Earlier on Monday, Mikdad discussed with Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African affairs Hussein Amir Abdullahian means to continue bilateral coordination in issues of interest to both sides.
