Bogdanov discusses with Mother al-Lahham situation in Syria

Moscow, SANA- Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa , Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed on Friday with Mother Superior of St. Jacob Convent Mother Fadia al-Lahham the situation in Syria.

Talks during the meeting focused on the humanitarian situation and Syrian displaced people in Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey, according to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Bogdanov said during the meeting that Russia continues to deliver the necessary humanitarian aid for the Syrians who have been affected during a protracted crisis, sending relief aid and through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), World Food Program (WFP) and other humanitarian agencies.

For her part, Mother Fadia al-Lahham affirmed during a press conference that the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization has been from the very beginning under the auspices of international financiers and controlled by western countries “that moved us to the so called Arab Spring”.

She also expressed thanks for the Russian government and people, noting that Russia has continuously called for ending Syrian crisis by allowing Syrians to determine their own future.

Mother Fadia is visiting Russia upon the invitation of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, meeting its chairman Sergey Stepashin.
