Moscow, SANA – The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said there are serious bases for believing that the ISIS terrorist organization has used toxic materials in Syria.
In a statement quoted by Russia Today TV on Friday, the Ministry said Damascus has provided new significant data indicating that chlorine gas was used as a chemical weapon in Syria after the “opposition” fighters, including ISIS in particular, after they had taken over facilities used to store this material.
The Ministry welcomed Syria’s step in informing the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) of these incidents, adding that the step clearly indicates Syria’s cooperation with the international community regarding all issues related to the chemical weapons.
Syria officially joined the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (CWC) in September 2013, and expressed readiness to cooperate fully with the OPCW.
