Mikdad discusses cooperation with UN-Hahbitat Regional Director

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Ministry Fayssal Mikdad discussed with Zena Ali Ahmad, the Regional Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat), means of activating bilateral cooperation.

Mikdad highlighted that the cooperation relations between Syria and the organization acquires a special importance at this stage due to its mandate in the fields of construction and urban development. 

He explained that the Syrian government, together with the national civil commissions, experts and specialists, are working on setting up an integral plan for post-war Syria to the effect of addressing the impacts of destruction caused by the terrorist war on the country in the various domains, including reconstruction and ensuring the return of displaced Syrians.

Ahmad, for her part, hailed the standing cooperation with the concerned Syrian parties and reviewed the existing programs and fields of cooperation, pointing out that the goal of this visit is to take a close look at the extent of the progress made with regard to these programs.

She added that the visit also aims at coming to know Syria’s point of view in terms of the role the Organization could play in the next stage and setting up future plans for work in Syria in the framework of the Programme’s mandate and specialties in the fields of building, reconstruction and urban planning.
