Security Council fails to adopt press statement on situation in southwest Syria

New York, SANA-UN Security Council  failed to adopt a press statement on the situation in southwest Syria due to a lack of consensus of the Council members.

Speaking to the journalists following the closed meeting to discuss the situation in Yemen, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia pointed out to differences among the Security Council members.

“They are focusing on the cessation of the hostilities and we are focusing on fighting terrorism ,” Nebenzia said.

He pointed out that the Russian side has questions on the number of the people who are in need for humanitarian aid.

“We agree on the need to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need,” Nebenzia said.
