Syria stresses the way to solve humanitarian crisis is through fighting terrorism and lifting sanctions

Geneva, SANA – Syria’s Permanent Representative at the Office of the United Nations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Ala said the way to solve the humanitarian crisis in Syria lies in acknowledging the reasons behind it without politicization or falsification of facts, namely those of terrorism and the unilateral coercive
sanctions imposed on Syria.

Addressing the 34th session of the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Ala affirmed that the solution should be through fighting terrorism, holding the governments sponsoring it to account and implementing the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and through the immediate lifting of the unilateral sanctions.

“Syria is determined to combat terrorism and seek a political solution, based on a Syrian-Syrian dialogue, led by Syria and without any foreign intervention or preconditions in a way that guarantees its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Ala said.

He affirmed Syria’s rejection of the unilateral, biased decisions which target the country, expressing regret over “consolidating the exploitation of the council’s mechanism through holding discussions during the current session with the participation of sides known for its stances hostile to the Syrian government.”
