Geneva, SANA – The Syrian Arab Republic delegation headed by Bashar al-Jaafari held on Thursday a session of talks with UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura at the UN headquarters in Geneva in the framework of the fourth round of the intra-Syrian dialogue being held in the Swiss city.
Earlier on the day, the delegation met with the head of the Middle East Department for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hamid Reza Dehghani and a number of his assistants in the framework of the continuous coordination between the two sides at Geneva talks.
A source close to the delegation said the delegation submitted during yesterday’s session a number of amendments and notes on the paper handed over by de Mistura entitled “basic principles for the political solution in the Syrian Arab Republic.” The delegation insisted on including terrorism as the fourth point of discussion in the agenda of talks besides those of governance, the constitution and the elections, according to the source.
The delegation asked de Mistura to inform the delegations of “opposition groups” of the amended paper and to know their position on it, the source added.
The talks in the Swiss city kicked off last Thursday, bringing together the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic and those of the opposition groups.
