Geneva, SANA – UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura said in a briefing on Thursday that the UN welcomes the “unilateral” humanitarian pause in Aleppo announcedby Syria and Russia for 11 hours.
The General Command of the Army and Armed Forces on Thursday announced that the decision of suspending the air strikes on gunmen in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo came as a preparation for the humanitarian pause that starts in the morning of October 20th, 2016.
In another context, de Mistura said in an interview with Swiss RTS that Aleppo humanitarian pause is enough if it is applied quickly to implement a medical evacuation process from the eastern neighborhoods of the city, adding that what is needed at once is the ability to evacuate 200 injured people.
De Mistura pointed out that he has not thought of resigning from his post as UN Special Envoy to Syria.
