Mikdad: Syria wants friends’ efforts to succeed in bringing Turkey back on the right track

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad affirmed that the Russians and Iranians keep the Syrian side updated about their meetings and contacts and informed of their efforts.

Syria wants the efforts of its friends to succeed in bringing Turkey back on “the right track” that would ensure the security and stability of the region, said Mikdad in response to a question about the Russian-Turkish-Iranian meetings in an interview with the Lebanese al-Binaa newspaper published on Thursday.

He renewed Syria’s welcoming of any effort aimed at resuming the political process to find a political solution to the crisis, noting that Syria has informed the parties concerned, especially the UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura, of its readiness to participate in any new round of talks without preconditions.

Mikdad however stressed that the political process cannot succeed without eliminating the terrorist hotbeds in Syria and without ensuring Syria’s territorial integrity.

He referred to the Russians’ efforts since the issuance of UN Resolution No.2254 to have the US cooperate in separating the terrorists from what it calls “moderate opposition”, affirming that these efforts have yielded no results, at the same time when those classified by the Americans as “moderate” are actually fighting alongside Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization.

Mikdad made it clear that there is complete and detailed understanding between Syria and its allies on the war vision, clarifying that this vision is based on considering the military action against terrorism as a necessary factor to support the political process.
