Mikdad: Syria supports UNRWA to guarantee a respectable life for Palestinian refugees

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad on Thursday received Acting Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Christian Saunders.

Mikdad expressed satisfaction over the UN General Assembly’s resolution to renew mandate of UNRWA for three more years, with  the majority of UN member states voted in favor of the renewal, while the US and Israel voted against the resolution.

He indicated that the resolution will help continue support for Palestinian refugee issue and alleviate their suffering , especially in light of the attempts and the pressure exerted by Washington and Israel to liquidate the Palestinian cause and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, most notably, the right to return Home.

Mikdad affirmed that Syria will continue to provide the necessary support to UNRWA to guarantee a continuation of a respectable life for Palestinian refugees in Syria and enhance the existing cooperation between the two sides on the basis of trust and belief in the importance of defending the rights of the Palestinian people.

He pointed out to Syria’s condemnation of the Zionist entity’s bloody policies against the Palestinian people which contradict the international law and the UN resolutions.

For his part, Saunders expressed his gratitude and thanks for the facilitation provided by the Syrian government to the UNRWA to carry out its tasks in the framework of supporting the Palestinian refugees and rehabilitating their schools and service centers in Syria, especially those destroyed by the terrorists.
