Three more breaches of the cessation of hostilities agreement observed

Lattakia, SANA – The cessation of hostilities agreement was breached three times by terrorist groups in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of breaches to 791 since the agreement came into effect on 27 February, the Russian center monitoring the agreement said on Tuesday.

Based in Hmeimim airbase in Lattakia, the Russian center added in a statement that the three violations were committed by the so-called Jaish al-Islam terrorists as fired mortars on positions of the Syrian Arab Army in areas in the countryside of Damascus, including in Jober and Douma.

The center said the agreement is holding in most of the Syrian provinces as 9 more towns in Homs province have joined it, putting the number of villages and towns that are part of the agreement at 200, noting that there are negotiations going on with leaders of armed groups in Damascus, Sweida and Daraa.

In a relevant context, the statement mentioned that terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIS targeted al-Nairab Airport, a number of towns and the neighborhoods of al-Sheikh Maqsoud, al-Khalidiyeh and al-Zahraa in Aleppo, in addition to targeting other towns in Damascus countryside.

The cessation of hostilities agreement is not applicable to ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra and other groups designated as terrorist organizations by the UN Security Council.
