Sweida, SANA – The authorities in Sweida province arrested a member of a car theft gang that had been stealing cars in the province and selling them to terrorist organizations in Daraa province.
In a statement to SANA, a source at Criminal Security Branch in Sweida said one of its patrols arrested a person who was wanted for crimes of drug dealing and forming a gang responsible for stealing cars and motorcycles, robbing shops, and attacking government establishments.
The source added that the arrested person admitted to stealing 24 car and one microbus from different areas in Sweida city along with other wanted persons, delivering the stolen cars to Najran and Arika villages in the northwest countryside of the province, and selling them to people affiliated with terrorist groups for sums ranging between SYP 300,000 and 1,000,000.
The source pointed out that the arrested criminal also admitted that he and other cohorts were involved in robbing a jewelry shop in the city of Sweida, three instances of scams that involved selling fake gold coins, in addition to the theft of three motorcycles and using hashish.
While making the arrest, the authorities found four old gold coins in the arrested person’s possession.
