Damascus, SANA – Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij opened on Thursday a gallery for plastic arts for the sons and daughters of martyrs at the Educational Center for Plastic Arts in Damascus on the centenary of the Martyrs Day.
After his tour in the exhibition, General Freij said in a statement that the children participating in the exhibition are the hope for a
better future.
The exhibition showcases paintings that depict the victories of the Syrian Arab Army against terrorists and topics such as Mothers’ Day and preserving the environment and water.
For her part, Director General of the Martyrs’ Sons and Daughters Schools Establishment Shahira Fallouh said in a statement to SANA that the
exhibition showcases paintings drawn by sons and daughters of martyrs, noting that optimism and psychological serenity dominated the students’
drawings.
On May 6, Syria commemorates the Martyrs Day, a national holiday commemorating the Syrian and Lebanese freedom fighters executed in Damascus and Beirut on May 6, 1916 by Jamal Pasha, also known
as ‘Al Jazzar’ or ‘The Butcher’, who was a commander in the ottoman army.
