Damascus, SANA – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham met on Sunday a European delegation from the Alliance for Peace and Freedom (APF) Party, headed by Roberto Fiore.
Al-Laham called on the European states, if they are truly serious about combating terrorism, to cooperate with the Syrian government in this regard and work for putting an end to the unjust economic blockade imposed on the Syrian people.
He told the delegation that the terrorist attacks that hit Paris and Brussels are a natural consequence of some European countries’ tolerating the movement of thousands of foreign extremists and fighters to Turkey and then into Syria.
The Speaker also called for activating parliamentary diplomacy to employ efforts for combating terrorism and stopping funds and support to terrorists provided by some states such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, in addition to taking a firm position against the Turkish government as it is the main transit route for Syria-bound terrorists who later make their way into Europe.
In turn, Fiore indicated a realization on the part of the public opinion in Europe that the Syrian people and army are rally fighting terrorism, a realization recently reached after the terrorist attacks which hit European countries.
He pointed out that the APF party has engaged efforts in all European countries seeking to bring to an end the unfair sanctions imposed on Syrian people, adding that the APF party has organized several conferences and events in Europe and published articles about the Wahhabism and its role in spreading terrorism to influence the European public opinion.
