Prague, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad met on Thursday with the Czech Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister Andrej Babis and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomir Zaoralek.
The situation in Syria and the efforts seeking a political solution to the crisis there were discussed during the meeting, which took place in Prague.
The possibility of the Czech Republic taking part in the post-crisis reconstruction process in Syria was highlighted in the course of the talks.
Describing the talks as very important, Mikdad said Minister Zaoralek expressed his admiration of the political plan which the Syrian government has for solving the crisis.
Zaoralek, he added, said his country is willing to be a partner in reconstruction in Syria.
The Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs, for his part, said in statements to SANA reporter that the talks reflected convergence of views as far as several issues are concerned.
One of those, he said, is the necessity that the EU highly engage in the efforts being made to bring the crisis in Syria to an end, keep the cessation of hostilities in place and implement development projects in Syria.
The largest task for Europe now is to put efforts towards reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria, Zaoralek said.
Mikdad is on a visit to the Czech Republic that will continue through Friday where he holds talks with the Czech political and economic officials.
In the same context, Mikdad discussed with Head of the International department at Czech Presidential Palace Hynek Kmonicek the Syrian efforts in combating terrorism and the international efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis in the country.
Kmonicek described in a statement to SANA Mikdad’s visit as “very successful” which gains a political importance, affirming his country’s commitment to continue the work of its embassy in Damascus.
For his part, Czech Deputy Foreign Minister Martin Tlapa said at a joint press conference with Mikdad that his country decided to boost its share in the European joint projects to offer humanitarian aid to Syria, adding that it prepares an exceptional assistance of medicines to the Syrian Red Crescent.
