Al-Jaafari describes talks with de Mistura in Geneva as “constructive and useful”

Geneva, SANA-The delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva held a session of talks on Friday with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura at the UN headquarters in Geneva.

Head of the delegation Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari described the talks in a press statement as “constructive and useful”.

“The delegation discussed with de Mistura the paper of basic principles on the political solution in Syria that he submitted on the last day of the previous round of talks,” he added.

“Today we submitted to de Mistura our amendments to his paper and requested that he study them and put them forth for other parties to review,” he said, adding that the two sides agreed to discuss the amendments during the next session scheduled for Monday at 11:00 am.

Al-Jaafari said de Mistura and his team will use the weekend break to thoroughly study the paper so as to come up with a stance regarding the amendments on Monday.

Al-Jafari said the delegation arrived in Geneva after taking part in the recently-held People’s Assembly elections.
