Damascus, SANA – Members of the Australian athletes’ delegation currently visiting Syria and members of the Syrian National Boxing Team conducted friendly matches at al-Fayhaa Sports Complex in Damascus.

The two boxers in the delegation, delegation head Father David Smith and Jacob Najjar, played a number of rounds against Syrian boxers focusing on techniques and tactics without scoring.

Smith told SANA’s sports correspondent that Syrian boxers showed a high degree of skill and unusual calmness and tactics, making the matches very enjoyable, while Najjar said that Syrian boxing has good talents that can compete in Olympic and international levels and could score good results in future champions.

The Australian athletes conducted training sessions with the team members earlier on Wednesday and Thursday, and will head to Lattakia on Saturday to train with boxers and conduct friendly matches.
