Water Resources Ministry and Action Against Hunger sign a MoU to set up joint projects

Damascus, SANA – Ministry of Water Resources and Action Against Hunger-ACF International signed on Sunday a memorandum of understanding to set up joint projects in water and sewage sectors.

The MoU includes providing help in evaluating the current situation of water, environmental sanitation and health awareness, in addition to supplying mechanical and electrical equipment, establishing wastewater treatment plants, rehabilitating water and sewage networks and enhancing technical and training capabilities.

Minister of Water Resources Kamal al-Sheikha hailed the effective role of ACF, played in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), in supporting the Ministry’s work, calling for speeding up steps to establish the projects and expanding work to involve all Syrian areas.

He referred to the possibility of cooperation with the ACH in implementing projects within the Ministry’s emergency plan, which is worth up to USD 50 million.

For her part, ACF chairperson expressed the organization’s desire to develop its work mechanism and expand the scope of its activities in Syria, referring to the possibility of working to increase its financial support, of which SYP 90 million have been disbursed.

Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian organization established in 1979. It began its work in Syria in 2009, with its activities including contribution to repairing drinking water networks and health facilities, in addition to food security and livelihood projects.
