Ways to enhance joint cooperation with UN-Habitat discussed

Cairo, SANA- A Syrian delegation, headed by Minister of Public Works and Housing, Dr. Hamza Ali, discussed with Chief of Staff of the Office of the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), Dr. Irfan Ali, and his accompanying team, ways to enhance and activate joint cooperation relations.

That came on the sidelines of the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) which is being held in Cairo, Egypt.

The two sides discussed the general framework of cooperation between Ministries of Local Administration and Environment, Public Works and Housing, and the “Habitat” program, and the efforts made related to providing continuous technical support to Syria through the general framework of cooperation under the memorandum of understanding signed in 2014 with the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment.

Talks during the meeting touched on the housing status report as a specific objective within the general objective and the unified methodology for assessing damage to buildings and infrastructure, and preparing technical, procedural and advisory guides in the field of sustainable urban planning, in addition to supporting vocational training and rehabilitation centers for workers in the field of construction and building.

On Monday, the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), which is being organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), was launched under the theme “It all starts at home: Local actions for sustainable cities and communities.”
