Grandi inspects facilitations and assistance provided to comers from Lebanon

Damascus, SANA-The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, visited Monday Jdeidet Yabous border crossing and inspected the facilities and assistance provided for comers from Lebanon to Syria.   

In a statement to reporters, Grande thanked the Syrian government for its cooperation and for allowing all arrivals to enter Syrian territory without discrimination.

He pointed out that the UNHCR plays a key role in coordinating that response in cooperation with the Syrian government and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

Grandi stressed that UNHCR’s response to refugee issues is continuing as  hundreds of people enter Syria from several border crossing points, adding that this evening, an appeal will be launched for donors from Damascus to collect donations to help respond to the humanitarian situation and granting the necessary funds to address the current situation and.

“I was in Lebanon until this morning and also saw the situation.” Grandi said, adding that it is very tragic there and there are large numbers of expatriates who are Syrians, 30% of whom are Lebanese, in addition to other nationalities such as Palestinians and Sudanese.
