UAE mission to the UN welcomes Syria’s return to Arab League

New York, SANA-Political Coordinator at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mission to the United Nations, Ghasaq Shaheen, has welcomed Syria’s return to the Arab League, and the resumption of its participation in its meetings and activities.

During a session of the Security Council on Monday on the “chemical file” in Syria, Shaheen said “I welcome the decision taken by the Arab countries yesterday, based on our common belief in the importance of an effective Arab role that contributes to resolving the region’s crises and restores security and stability to it.”

She added “We hope that this step will pave the way for resolving the crisis in Syria through a clear Arab path, and that the brotherly Syrian people will finally see a glimmer of hope after years of war.”

Shaheen emphasized that real progress in the “chemical file” requires engaging in a meaningful dialogue between the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and Syria.

The Emirati diplomat welcomed Syria’s proposal to hold a round of high-level consultations to develop a new plan of action to resolve issues with the organization.

She called for paying attention to the continuation of the terrorist attacks of Daesh (ISIS), which pose serious threats to the security and stability of Syria.
