Tehran, SANA- Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, called for the immediate, complete and unconditional cancellation of unjustified sanctions imposed on Syria and an increase in humanitarian aid to the country.
Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) Amir Saeed Iravani made the remarks at a Security Council meeting on Syria on Tuesday.
Iravani said that the deterioration of the humanitarian situation requires an increase in humanitarian aid in a neutral, non-discriminatory manner and without politicization or conditions.
“In order to give more effective attention to the current humanitarian crisis in Syria, the international community must focus on the complete lifting of the inhumane sanctions against the Syrian people,” the Iranian Ambassador added.
He noted that the recent exemptions for humanitarian aid are not enough and are just an attempt to raise concern.
Iravani stressed that the unilateral coercive measures constitute a clear violation of international laws and the UN Charter and impede the access of the Syrian people to their needs and the ability of government institutions to provide basic services.
The Iranian representative called for the immediate, complete and unconditional cancellation of these unjustified sanctions.
He noted that terrorism still poses a serious threat to Syria and the region and must be dealt with decisively, expressing concern over the illegal presence of foreign military forces illegally present in Syria, which violates the UN Charter and the international laws.
