UNSC unanimously adopts a Russian-drafted resolution over ceasefire in south eastern Ukraine

New York, SANA, The United Nations Security Council adopted unanimously on Tuesday a Russian-drafted resolution calls for a total ceasefire in south eastern Ukraine.

The resolution, submitted to the UNSC by Russia on February 13, a day after the Minsk deal was agreed on, aims at endorsing and executing the Minsk agreements. The document also expresses concern over the continuing violence in eastern Ukraine, and stresses the importance of resolving the conflict peacefully, Russia Today reported.

The resolution calls for a total ceasefire and a political solution that respects the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Moscow would aid in full the realization of the agreement, Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin said.

On February 12, A ceasefire agreement was reached after marathon talks at “Normandy Four Summit” in Minsk between Presidents of Russia Vladimir Putin, France Francois Hollande, Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, and Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel.
