Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad held Monday political talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin on relations between Syria and Russia and coordination between them, especially in the light of recent developments.
The talks also dealt with issues of combating terrorism and joint efforts between the two countries in the file of the return of Syrian refugees to their country.
President al-Assad underlined that all the Western attempts to impede the Syrian State’s efforts to restore security and stability on all its territory will not succeed, and that these efforts are proceeding in accordance with the aspirations of the Syrians for recovery and stability.
His Excellency reiterated Syria’s support for the Russian position regarding the situation in Ukraine and its rejection of all Western attempts hostile to Moscow in this context.
Vershinin conveyed to President al-Assad warm greetings from President Putin and his satisfaction of the distinguished level of relations between Syria and Russia.
He noted the importance of taking action in a new phase of international relations in light of USA concern and its Western allies of losing political and economic control at the global level.
Vershinin praised the significant diplomatic victories that Syria has recently achieved at the Arab and world level.
Additionally, the Deputy Foreign Minister stressed the importance of Syrian-Russian coordination in international forums and joined efforts against terrorism.
The diplomat expressed his country’s continued support for Syria to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
