Damascus, SANA – Deputy Premier, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem on Thursday discussed with Chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer the active cooperation between Syria and ICRC.
Maurer expressed relief over the standing cooperation between Syria, ICRC and The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), as well as the facilitations provided for delivering humanitarian aid to people in need, stressing the importance of cooperation in the field of International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
For his part, Minister al-Moallem expressed Syria’s appreciation of the efforts exerted by ICRC, the support it provides for overcoming the obstacles and its cooperation with SARC.
The Minister stressed the importance of not politicizing the organizations that provide humanitarian aid, welcoming the ideas proposed by ICRC Chairman.
Deputy FM Fayssal Mikdad, FM Advisor Ahmad Arnous, SARC Chairman Abdul-Rahman al-Attar, Director of International Organizations at FM Ghassan Obeid and the accompanying delegation of Maurer attended the meeting.
Earlier today, Mikdad and Maurer held a session of talks over the standing cooperation among Syria, ICRC and SARC.
Maurer appreciated Syria’s exerted efforts in cooperation with ICRC in facing challenges and the importance of executing joint programs in the humanitarian work field.
Mikdad stressed on not politicizing organizations that provide aid assistance.
