Moscow-SANA- Russia strongly condemned the Israeli aggression on the city of Palmyra in the Homs countryside two days ago, which injured and claimed the lives of dozens.
“We strongly denounce the violent attack carried out by “Israel” on Syrian territory. This attack, as well as all that preceded it, constitutes a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of this country and the basic rules of international law.” Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a press statement on Friday.
“We must point out with deep regret that the fierceness of the confrontation in the Middle East has led to the devaluation not only of human life, but also of cultural and historical memory.” Zakharova went on to say adding, “Not long ago, Israeli aircraft carried out a series of raids on the Lebanese city of Baalbek and its unique temple, and now an airstrike has been carried out on the city of Palmyra, which is recorded on the UNESCO World Heritage List and which previously suffered brutally from ISIS terrorists.”
“Once again, we strongly urge to listen to the voice of reason and not to overstep the boundaries of civilized behavior based on the system of human values that emerged with the advent of the 21st century,” Zakharova continued. “We must remember that the escalation of the conflict makes it difficult to realize the prospects for lasting peace in the Middle East.”
