Mikdad: FAO should focus its work on development process

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad received on Thursday Regional Representative at Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)Abdessalam Ould Ahmed.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the standing cooperation between the Syrian government and FAO, and means of bolstering them in the coming period.

Mikdad affirmed importance of continued cooperation between the Syrian government and FAO which is one of the most UN important and oldest organizations operating in Syria.

He stressed that FAO should focus on development domains in Syria during this period to push the development forward.

He hailed FAO adherence to the principles of professionalism, neutrality and independence, denouncing the unilateral coercive measures adopted by western states which increased the citizens’ suffering.

UN Regional Representative, for his part, highly appreciated relations connecting Syria and FAO, underlining that FAO will continue to cooperate with Syria to push the development process forwards.

He expressed satisfaction over the achievements and projects implemented by FAO , in cooperation with the Syrian government.
