Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad, received on Wednesday Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Syria Philip Spoerri, who succeeded Marianne Gasser.
Mikdad expressed Syria’s appreciation for the efforts exerted by the former head of ICRC in Syria, Gasser, during eight-year-work in the country, pointing out that the ties of cooperation between Syria and ICRC are deep and vital.
He affirmed Syria’s readiness to continue fruitful cooperation with ICRC and develop it in all fields in order to provide the Syrians with the largest possible help in line with Syria’s respect for the ICRC and the latter’s commitment to its neutrality and its humanitarian noble objectives.
For his part, Spoerri expressed appreciation for the cooperation between Syria and ICRC and the volume of joint work carried out with Syrian Arab red Crescent which has developed over the past years noticeably.
He said that he will strengthen the work of ICRC in Syria during his mission, in addition to developing its programs, in coordination and consultation with the Syrian government and the close cooperation with the Syrian parties concerned.
