Damascus, SANA – The administration of the Syrian Olympic football team has invited seven professional players abroad to join the training camps in Qatar and Indonesia in preparation for the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship, which will be held in China.
The invited players are: Ahmad Elian, Shadi al-Hamwi, Mohammad Marmour, Hamza Mahnaya, Ahmad Birish, Abdullah Jinyat, Zaid Ghreir and Omar Younis, playing now in Kuwaiti, Jordanian, Lebanese, Emirati, Egyptian, Qatari and German teams, respectively.
Hussein Afash, the team’s coach, told SANA that the Syrian team will play three friendly matches during the first camp which will be held in Qatar, two of them with Qatar and the third with Iraq, adding that the second training camp will be held in Indonesia, in which the team will play two friendly matches with the hosting team.
The Syrian Olympic football team will play within Group 4 of the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship, which includes South Korea, Australia and Vietnam.
A total of 16 teams qualified to play in the final tournament, including China, who qualified automatically as host.
