Astana, SANA – The Kazakh Foreign Ministry affirmed on Thursday that the next Astana meeting on Syria will be held on March 14-15.
“The next high-level meeting on Syria will be held in the capital of Kazakhstan on March 14-15, 2017.
High-level delegations from Russia, Turkey and Iran will take part in the meeting. Invitations will be sent to the United Nations, the United States and Jordan. The guarantor countries expect the Syrian government and the armed opposition to confirm the participation of their delegations,” the press service of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, on March 14th, preliminary consultations are scheduled to take place, while on March 15th, the meeting’s participants will hold a plenary meeting.
Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry noted that Kazakhstan is ready to further contribute to international efforts aimed at finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria, adding that the results of the previous meetings of Astana, especially those related to the cessation of hostilities agreement had provided an opportunity in front of the Syrian parties to go to discuss the issues raised in the framework of the Geneva process in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
Earlier, the head of the Press Service of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry Anuar Zhaynakov announced that his country is waiting for the final statements of the participating countries on the date and the level of the upcoming meeting in Astana on settling the crisis in Syria.
