At least 151 dead in floods in central Nigeria

Abuja, SANA- Nigerian authorities have announced that at least 151 people have died due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall that struck the town of Mokwa in central Nigeria.

Ibrahim Hussaini, spokesperson for the local emergency agency, told CNN: “151 bodies have been found, including those of many children during rescue operations,” noting that the death toll could rise as search efforts continue.

Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, regularly experiences flooding during the rainy season from May to September. Last year, over 200 people lost their lives, and 386,000 were displaced from their homes due to floods that affected the northern regions of the country.
