New York, March 6 (SANA) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned on Friday that the escalating conflict in the Middle East risks spiraling out of control, urging all parties to halt the fighting and return to diplomacy.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Guterres condemned unlawful attacks in the region, saying they are causing severe civilian suffering and posing risks to the global economy, particularly for the most vulnerable populations.
He cautioned that the situation could deteriorate beyond the control of any party if hostilities continue, stressing the need for immediate efforts to de-escalate the conflict and engage in serious diplomatic negotiations.
The conflict between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other has been ongoing since Feb. 28, while several Gulf Cooperation Council states, along with Jordan and Iraq, have reported Iranian attacks that caused casualties and material damage.
