Washington, Sept. 2 (SANA) The U.S. military said Wednesday that it had completed a new wave of strikes against Iranian military targets, including air defense sites, radar systems and maritime facilities, according to a U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) statement.
U.S. CENTCOM, said its forces struck targets belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites.
The command said the strikes followed recent attempted attacks by the Revolutionary Guard against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against U.S. service members.
CENTCOM said more than 50,000 U.S. service members are currently operating across the Middle East.
The latest strikes came amid renewed exchanges between Washington and Tehran around the Strait of Hormuz, a key international shipping route.
U.S. forces had launched the latest round of attacks on Iranian military targets, with CENTCOM saying the operation was intended to respond to attempted attacks on commercial vessels and American personnel.
