Damascus, Sept. 2 (SANA) Finance Minister, Mohammad Yisr Barniyeh, and European Commission Middle East Director Henrike Trautmann discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, including plans to activate a technical support center set to open soon in Damascus with European Commission funding and support.
The Finance Ministry said on Telegram Wednesday that the two sides discussed launching specialized workshops in Damascus on public finance, including public financial management, public-private partnerships and public debt management, with the aim of transferring expertise and building institutional capacity.
Supporting digital transformation
The talks also covered cooperation on strengthening governance and supporting the establishment of joint-stock companies, as well as assistance for Syria’s digital transformation and the “Syria Without Camps” initiative.
Earlier Wednesday, the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates held a workshop with an EU delegation headed by Trautmann to discuss the situation of Syrian refugees abroad, their return to Syria and related regional programs.
