Capitals, July 10 (SANA) Regional and international organizations, along with several governments, on Thursday condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, calling for respect for international law, protection of maritime navigation and an end to regional escalation.
The statements came after Kuwait said its air defenses intercepted hostile missiles and drones that entered its airspace, while Bahrain’s Defense Force said it had repelled Iranian aerial attacks. The reported attacks followed heightened tensions in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
The Arab League condemned the attacks, describing them as violations of the sovereignty of Arab states and international law. In a statement, the office of the secretary-general’s spokesperson said the incidents threatened regional security and undermined efforts to contain tensions, urging the international community to help prevent further escalation and support a return to negotiations.
The League also reiterated its solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan and backed measures taken by the three countries to safeguard their security and territorial integrity.
In a separate statement, the Arab League criticized the recent landing of an Iranian aircraft at Sanaa International Airport without prior coordination with Yemen’s internationally recognized government, describing it as a violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and international law.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) likewise condemned repeated Iranian attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, as well as attacks on the Saudi tanker Wadiyan and the Qatari tanker Al-Rukayyat while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The GCC said the incidents violated international law and threatened freedom of navigation, regional security, global energy supplies and international trade. It reaffirmed the right of its member states to defend themselves under Article 51 of the U.N. Charter and called on the U.N. Security Council to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and reject unilateral restrictions on maritime transit.
The council also called for an immediate and unconditional end to hostilities and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.
The Muslim World League (MWL) condemned the attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan, saying they violated humanitarian principles and international norms.
MWL Secretary-General Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa expressed solidarity with the three countries and supported measures taken to protect their security, sovereignty and the safety of citizens and residents.
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry also condemned repeated Iranian attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, calling them a serious violation of state sovereignty and international law.
The ministry reaffirmed Bahrain’s support for measures taken by affected countries to protect their territorial integrity and urged the international community, particularly the U.N. Security Council, to take decisive action and ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Britain joined the condemnation, with Middle East Minister Hamish Falconer describing attacks on Gulf partners and civilian vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz as unacceptable. He called for restraint and a return to diplomacy in remarks published by the British Foreign Office.
The statements reflect growing international concern over rising tensions in the Gulf and their potential impact on regional stability, maritime security and global trade.
