Damascus, July 7 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani said on Tuesday that French President Emmanuel Macron‘s historic visit to Damascus marked a turning point in Syrian-French relations, opening a new phase of partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests.

In a statement following Macron’s official visit, al-Shaibani said the visit concluded with the signing of several memorandums of understanding and the launch of strategic cooperation initiatives, reflecting growing international confidence in Syria and its role in promoting security and stability.

“The visit culminated in the signing of memorandums of understanding and the launch of strategic cooperation initiatives, reflecting growing international confidence in Syria and its role in promoting security and stability,” he said.

Al-Shaibani reaffirmed the Syrian state’s commitment to protecting its citizens, safeguarding national security and combating terrorism in all its forms, describing security as a cornerstone of the country’s recovery and development.

He said the competent authorities are continuing investigations into all security incidents and will hold accountable, in accordance with the law, any individual or entity found responsible for targeting Syria’s security or the safety of its citizens.

Al-Shaibani said attempts to undermine Syria’s security or obstruct its path would not alter the country’s steady progress toward restoring its regional and international role.

“Supporting Syria today means supporting regional stability,” he said, adding that the country’s expanding network of international partnerships demonstrates that “the era of isolation has come to an end” and that future cooperation will be based on development, shared interests and mutual cooperation.

Macron’s visit to Damascus included high-level talks with President Ahmad al-Sharaa and the signing of a series of bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding covering economic cooperation, investment, transport, healthcare and institutional development.
