Beirut, April 9 (SANA) — Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on Thursday targeting several areas in southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut, killing 17 people and injuring others.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, The Israeli military targeted in Zrarieh town, Sidon district, hitting a residential building and killing more than ten people, including women and children, according to initial local reports.
one of the strikes hit the town of al-Abbassieh in the Tyre district, resulting in an initial toll of seven deaths and a number of injuries.
Israeli aircraft also launched multiple raids on the towns of Habboush and Jebchit, as well as areas between Habboush and Deir al-Zahrani and the town of Doueir in Nabatieh.
In the southern suburbs of Beirut, airstrikes at dawn targeted the area of Chiyah, while additional raids hit the towns of Kafra, al-Jmayjmeh, Safad al-Battikh, Majdal Selm, Deir Antar and the vicinity of Qasmiyeh bridge.
The air attacks coincided with artillery shelling targeting the town of Haris, while the town of Khiam was subjected to artillery fire and machine-gun sweeps.
Several families in areas south of the Litani River called for international evacuation, saying they were facing a complete siege following the destruction of the Qasmiyeh bridge.
Lebanon witnessed on Wednesday one of the most intense waves of Israeli strikes since March 2, targeting Beirut, the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon, hours after the United States and Iran announced a two-week truce.
The Lebanese Civil Defense said the death toll from Wednesday’s strikes had risen to 254, with 1,165 others injured.
