Cairo, July 20 (SANA) Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi welcomed Belgium‘s decision to ban imports of products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, calling on other countries to adopt similar measures.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, Al Yamahi described the Belgian government’s decision as a victory for international law and a clear rejection of the legalization of Israeli settlement activity.

He urged countries, particularly European Union member states, to ban imports from Israeli settlements and end all forms of economic engagement with settlement-related activities, saying such measures would be consistent with their legal and moral obligations under U.N. Security Council Resolution 2334 and the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion on the illegality of Israel’s occupation.

Al Yamahi also called for sanctions on companies and entities linked to settlement activities and urged the suspension of trade privileges and agreements with Israel until it complies with international law and U.N. resolutions and halts settlement expansion.

He further called on the international community to move beyond condemnation and take concrete measures to end a policy of impunity, uphold international law and support the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent and sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Belgium announced on Saturday that it would ban imports of products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
