14 Ministry of Defense personnel martyred in blast near Sarmada, Idlib

Damascus, Sep. 9 ( SANA)  The death toll from an explosion at a temporary weapons and war remnants storage facility near Sarmada in the northern Idlib countryside rose to 14 on Wednesday, with 11 others injured, according to a preliminary toll.

The Ministry of Defense said in a statement, “an explosion occurred at a temporary storage facility containing weapons and remnants of war near the city of Sarmada, north of Idlib. The blast resulted in the martyrdom of 14 Ministry of Defense personnel and injured more than 10 others, including civilians.”

“Immediately after the explosion, specialized units from the Ministry of Defense, in coordination with the relevant authorities, moved to secure the site and address the aftermath of the blast. Meanwhile, the competent authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident and establish the circumstances surrounding it,” the Ministry added.

It stated that it assumes full responsibility for the incident and extended its deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives. It also expressed its hope that the deceased will rest in God’s mercy and wished the injured a swift and full recovery.
