Manama/Abu Dhabi, April 5 (SANA) Petrochemical and energy facilities in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates were hit by drone attacks on Sunday, triggering fires but causing no reported casualties, according to official statements.
Bahrain’s Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company said several of its operational units were struck by drones from Iran, resulting in a fire at the site.
The Bahrain News Agency reported that emergency and civil defense teams brought the fire under control without injuries and were continuing to assess the damage.
The company said employee safety remains a priority and that work is ongoing to secure the facility and prevent further impact.
Separately, Bahrain’s Bapco Energies said one of its storage facilities was targeted by a drone, causing a fire in a storage tank. The company said emergency response teams extinguished the blaze and secured the site, with no injuries reported.
In the United Arab Emirates, authorities said a fire broke out at the Borouge petrochemical plant in Abu Dhabi after debris fell following what they described as a successful interception of drones and missiles.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office said several fires at the facility were contained and operations were suspended pending a damage assessment. No casualties were reported.
The UAE Defense Ministry had earlier said its air defense systems intercepted drones and missiles entering the country’s airspace.
In a separate development, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said four civilians sustained minor injuries on Saturday and several homes were damaged in the Sitra area due to debris from a drone interception.
Gulf countries have reported repeated drone and missile incidents in recent weeks amid heightened regional tensions.
