Ankara, Feb. 4 (SANA) Türkiye and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their shared position on the need to safeguard Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as to support the Syrian people’s aspirations for development and prosperity.
According to Anadolu, a joint Turkish-Saudi statement published on Wednesday by Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications at the conclusion of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Saudi Arabia said the two sides expressed appreciation for the Syrian government’s efforts and responsible steps to protect Syria’s security, stability and unity. The statement also expressed appreciation for international efforts to support Syria and lift sanctions imposed on it.
The two sides stressed their support for the ceasefire and integration agreement announced on Jan. 30 and the government’s efforts to enhance civil peace.
They renewed their condemnation of repeated Israeli violations and attacks against Syrian territory and sovereignty, describing them as blatant breaches of international law that threaten regional security and stability. They reiterated their call for Israel’s immediate withdrawal from all occupied Syrian territories.
The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to coordinating efforts to maintain international peace and security.
They also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling for the opening of all crossings, the facilitation of humanitarian aid, the protection of civilians, an end to the occupation, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international law and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.
They praised the strength of Turkish–Saudi economic relations and agreed to enhance cooperation in trade, investment and priority sectors, in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Türkiye Century Vision. They also agreed to advance free trade negotiations between Türkiye and the Gulf Cooperation Council, and to strengthen defense, security and cybersecurity cooperation, including efforts to combat terrorism, extremism and organized crime.
