Abu Dhabi/Riyadh (SANA) The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia said Thursday that their air defense systems intercepted missiles and drones launched from Iran amid the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
The UAE Ministry of Defense said in a statement on the social media platform X that its air defenses intercepted ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones early Thursday, adding that sounds heard across the country were caused by interception operations.
The ministry said its forces had also intercepted five ballistic missiles and 35 drones on Wednesday.
One person was killed and another injured in the emirates of Fujairah and Umm al-Quwain after debris from two intercepted drones fell in populated areas, according to the ministry.
In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Defense said Thursday that four drones were intercepted and destroyed in recent hours.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the ministry’s official spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki, as saying that “four drones were intercepted and destroyed in recent hours.”
The ministry said Wednesday that its air defense forces had intercepted and destroyed two drones in earlier incidents.
Gulf states have reported repeated drone and missile attacks launched from Iran since the start of the U.S.-Israeli–Iran conflict on Feb. 28.
