Kuwait City, March 12 (SANA) Kuwait International Airport was targeted by several drones early Thursday, causing material damage but no casualties, Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation said.
Authority spokesman Abdullah Al-Rajhi told the state news agency KUNA that the incident was handled under an emergency response plan activated since the start of the regional crisis, in coordination with relevant national authorities.
Al-Rajhi said the Civil Aviation Authority remains committed to taking all necessary measures to safeguard civil aviation safety and security in Kuwait.
Earlier Thursday, two people were injured when a drone struck a residential building in southern Kuwait, while Kuwaiti air defenses intercepted several drones that had entered the country’s northern airspace.
The Kuwaiti Armed Forces General Staff urged citizens and residents to follow security and safety instructions issued by authorities.
The incidents come amid escalating regional tensions since Feb. 28, when hostilities began between Iran and a U.S.–Israeli coalition, followed by a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf countries and critical infrastructure.
The conflict has also disrupted commercial aviation across the Middle East, with airlines rerouting flights and authorities tightening airspace security after missile and drone incidents near major cities, energy facilities and shipping routes.
