Capitals, March 18 (SANA) The United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait said Wednesday their air defenses intercepted missile and drone attacks across their territories, amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
The UAE Ministry of Defense said in a statement carried by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on March 18 that “UAE air defenses are dealing with missile attacks and drones coming from Iran,” adding that sounds heard in various areas were the result of intercepting ballistic missiles and engaging drones and cruise targets.
The ministry had earlier said at dawn on Wednesday that its air defenses had intercepted missile and drone attacks originating from Iran.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defense said in a statement posted on X on March 18 that the Qatari Armed Forces had intercepted a missile attack targeting the country’s territory.
The ministry had said late Tuesday that Qatar was targeted by nine ballistic missiles and a number of drones, adding that its forces successfully intercepted all incoming projectiles.
In Kuwait, National Guard spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jadaan Fadel Jadaan said in a post on X on March 18 that “at dawn today, seven drones were downed within areas of responsibility secured by assigned forces.”
He added that National Guard personnel remain at a high level of readiness to protect the country.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense had said earlier that its forces intercepted 13 drones and two missiles that entered the country’s airspace over the previous 24 hours.
These developments come amid ongoing regional escalation following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
Iran has carried out missile and drone attacks targeting several Arab countries, including the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait, resulting in casualties and damage to infrastructure.
