Belarusian Ambassador: USD 8 million is the value of Syrian fruit and vegetable exports to Belarus in past 3 months

Damascus, SANA – The Syrian fruit and vegetable exports to Belarus have increased in the last three months compared to past years, said Ambassador of Belarus in Damascus Alexander Ponomarev, putting the total value of these exports at USD 8 million.

His remarks came during a meeting on Thursday with Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Adib Mayaleh to discuss means of boosting trade and economic relations between Belarus and Syria.

The agreements in the protocol of the meetings of the 6th Joint Syrian-Belarusian Committee was on the table of the meeting between Ponomarev and Mayaleh, especially in relation to activating the working groups that were formed in the trade, industrial and financial fields.

Developing the proper mechanisms for financing contracts of importing Belarusian commodities and equipment was a focal point of discussion.

In this context, Minister Mayaleh reviewed the efforts being made to overcome all restrictions and obstacles standing in the way of boosting the volume of trade exchange between Damascus and Minsk.

Both capitals share mutual interests in enhancing trade exchange, especially in light of Belarus importing Syrian fruits and vegetables and Syria’s need of many of Belarusian-made products such as heavy equipment and fertilizers and some animal products, according to Mayaleh.

The Minister used the opportunity of the meeting to extend an invitation to Belarus to participate in the 59th edition of Damascus International Fair, which will be held next summer after a five-year halt due to the terrorist war on Syria.

Ambassador Ponomarev stressed that Belarus will be one of the first countries to take part in the Fair.
