Al-Moallem meets Iranian and Algerian counterparts

New York, SANA – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem met his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

Talks during the meeting dealt with boosting coordination and consultations between Syria and Iran as the two sides discussed the latest developments in the Syrian and regional arenas.

Al-Moallem reiterated Syria’s adherence to the priority of fighting and eliminating terrorism.

For his part, Zarif stressed Iran’s continued support for Syria and its efforts to reach a
political solution to end the crisis in it.

In a separate meeting, al-Moallem and his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra reviewed means of enhancing cooperation between their countries in all fields.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the region, with al-Moallem briefing the Algerian Minister on the military situation in Syria and the armed
groups’ breaches of the cessation of hostilities agreement.

Earlier, al-Moallem met the foreign ministers of Iraq, Oman, Cyprus, Armenia, Russia, Belarus and Sudan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
