Syrian Red Crescent constructs a solar-powered well pump in Deir Ezzor city

Deir Ezzor, SANA – The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) in Deir Ezzor, in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), finished the installation of solar-powered well pump in al-Muwazafin neighborhood in Deir Ezzor City, eastern Syria.

Director of the SARC branch in Deir Ezzor Anas Ashawi said 6500 people in the neighborhood will benefit from the well, which will be used for purposes other than obtaining drinking water.

He underlined that the importance of the well comes from the fact that it uses solar power for operating the pumps instead of using fuel, which is in short supply due to the siege imposed on the city by ISIS terrorist organization.

He added that the SARC is currently working on preparing a project for the treatment and desalination of drilled well water in cooperation with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Last June, another well was constructed by the SARC in al-Joura neighborhood in Deir Ezzor city.
