Cabinet establishes executive vision and mechanisms for securing oil products and energy requirements

Damascus, SANA- The Cabinet established an executive vision for securing petroleum products and energy requirements during the coming stage based on near-term and medium-term programs in accordance with specific priorities.

The programs are based on integrated mechanisms between the Ministries of Electricity and Petroleum & Mineral Resources, which begin with rebuilding and restoring infrastructure facilities which had been destroyed and securing petroleum products and requirements of the electricity sector and power plants, in addition to combating the smuggling of petroleum products.

This vision was adopted during a meeting on Sunday between Ministries of Electricity, Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Economy and Foreign Trade, and the Central Bank of Syria (CBS) chaired by Prime Minister Imad Khamis, in which the priorities of cooperation with friendly countries in terms of infrastructure rehabilitation and securing requirements of energy and electricity were discussed.

Minister of Petroleum Ali Ghanem gave a detailed presentation on the current situation of the petroleum sector and the losses it suffered, noting that the priorities of the Ministry is the rehabilitation of infrastructure, particularly in al-Shaer fields, and operating phosphate mines through the development of a systematic plan, offering a memo which includes ways to secure the necessary funding for the implementation of these plans.

In a statement to SANA after the meeting, Minister Ghanem said there’s a plan for putting Abu Rabah gas well in service with a capacity ranging from 200,000 to 300,000 cubic meters.

For his part, Minister of Electricity Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli said that the meeting aims at raising the level of coordination and cooperation between the ministries and devising plans to raise the efficiency of stations and the rehabilitation of the infrastructure for all the oil facilities which were destroyed by the armed terrorist organizations.
